Installation News and an Impromptu Chalk Wall Drawing / by Brielle DuFlon

You guyssss I have my first ever installation scheduled for July! Should be gorgeous, if all goes as planned. I'm working with flower petals at this point - I know it's going to be primarily organic assemblage but I might throw some weaving in there, too. We shall see, we shall see. I don't want to give too much away, but I will post some pretty process pics for you guys :)

Rose petals, mid press and dry...

I had this fantasy of making fish scales or something similar with the rose petals - that overlapping is so satisfying to me. I basically want to make something that people want very badly to touch. I want to touch this little trial piece every time I walk by it so I think it's working! ha

In other news I was walking around the IX Art Park in town the other day and happened upon a clean chalk wall with chalk lying around - a truly rare occurrence. I feel like it's impossible to find any open area on public wall space dedicated to chalk mural making. Somehow I did though, and I had fun making these little organic improvised shapes that feed into one another and work together with movement - shapes that I used to make back when I was working in pen and ink mostly and doing a lot of improvisational abstract drawing. It was really fun and exhilarating and made me want to bring these little shapes back into my art, somehow. I think I will!! Already having visions of incorporating these into prints and tapestries!!! Aiiieee!! so fun how the things that are strong enough make appearances over and over again in your life.
